As the Penrhos campus is on the South Perth Heritage Register, any new building requires integration into the existing built fabric. With this requirement informing the brief, ZMH was commissioned to design a new three storey education building that employed the campus aesthetic of cream bricks and swiss tile pattern roofs while introducing new textures with glazed bricks and Alucabond cladding. The design intent was to give the expression of a ‘creative arts centre’ for the college.
ZMH removed an existing escape stair and connected the building to neighbouring buildings through new link ways, integrating the new into the old.
