Zuideveld Marchant Hur Architects (ZMH) is a well-established Western Australian architectural practice that strives to achieve design excellence through successful and enduring professional relationships. For almost 50 years, ZMH has shown its leadership in the creation of buildings and spaces that are contextually relevant, enduring and cognisant of current research and technologies.

Established in 1972 as Overman & Zuideveld, ZMH has developed into a respected private practice with broad experience in Residential and Commercial Architecture, Planning, Education and Interior Design. Its merger with Zuideveld Hur Architects to become ZMH in 2009 brought together the strength of these two practices adding new design capabilities across a more diversified range of sectors. This foundation offers an exceptional client experience that is driving the practice into the future.  At ZMH, directors are readily accessible during the whole design process from client consultation through to project completion. Our service is one of the strengths of our practice.

ZMH-D is the Interior Design arm of ZMH created to harness expert interior design skills for our clients and new projects in the fields of Workplace, Education, Hospitality and Residential projects. As part of a multidisciplinary design firm ZMH-D is fully integrated with the architectural team to provide our clients a broader range of skills and resources.

Martin Dutry
Director of Interiors

Martin has joined ZMH in 2013 as a Director of Interiors, following a senior role in a large international design practice. He now leads ZMH-D with a focus on Workplace, Education and Hospitality sectors. In his previous role, Martin worked on large-scale projects including BHP Billiton’s Brookfield Place (60,000 sqm -6 Star Green Star Office Interiors) and clients such as Leighton, Rio Tinto, Broad, Aurecon and Aspen.

Martin is an awarded designer with over 17 years experience. Originally from Brussels, Belgium, Martin moved permanently to Australia in 2001. His expertise includes management, business development as well as ensuring high quality project delivery. Martin’s extensive experience on both large and small projects equips him with a distinctive ability to approach projects with a strategic mind whilst also focusing on fine details that make a project stand out. Many of ZMH-D’s clients are repeat clients and are a true testimony of Martin’s ability to establish enduring working relationship and add value to each and every project. Some of our clients include Leighton / CPB, Jackson McDonald, BHP Billiton, Woodside and the Hilton Hotel. At ZMHD we never take things for granted and we regularly seek feedback to ensure that we provide the absolute best service every time. 

Fred Zuideveld
Director of Architecture

Fred is one of WA’s most experienced architects and project directors. Over his 40+ year career he has built ZMH’s strong foundations and reputation. His work has largely focused on grouped and multiple residential, mixed-use developments, commercial and education projects.

He is renowned for his ability to apply creative thinking to difficult planning scenarios to ensure the client’s project achieves its ultimate potential.Fred has been awarded numerous R.A.I.A Architectural Design Awards and Commendations over his career. Fred’s experience and talent is   recognized by his position as a specialist  member of the Metro North West Joint Development Assessment Panel. Prior to becoming a JDAP member he has spent 22 years on the City of South Perth Design Advisory Committee.

Nathan Zuideveld
Director of Architecture

As a director of ZMH Nathan has applied his strong management and architectural skills to a wide variety of educational, residential & commercial projects. These include a long-standing working relationship with Curtin University of Technology, including projects such as specialist laboratories and adaptive reuse of buildings across a number of campuses.

Nathan has further experience with educational architecture in the private sphere including many projects at Penrhos College. He has worked closely with fellow Director Fred Zuideveld on the New Penrhos College master plan, won a competition for the proposed new Junior School as well as having completed numerous building projects for the College including the new Creative Arts and Design Building and Colwyn House. Parallel to this Nathan has built ongoing relationships with BMW on government primary schools and public works buildings. Concurrently he also is working on multi-residential buildings. Nathan’s rich and diverse experience allows him to add value to our clients by providing relevant front-end information including high-level feasibility studies and project planning.
